Over the past week, our group have decided on a few changes that we are going to make to our music video.
The first decision was to scrap the whole projections idea and replace them with images on a television screen which would have pictures of an orange tree on them, we would have multiple TVs on pieces of furniture which will create levels on the set.
Since the idea of the televisions, we are in the process of also getting rid of that idea and replacing the set with orange paint splattering on the back wall. This way, we can work more on the lighting aspect of our shoot. We also thing its a good idea to play around with the whole Spider Bites Element and maybe get some ideas that link to the song name.
In todays media lesson we attended an advanced camera workshop where we mainly learned about the different lens types but also we covered shutter speed or angle and aperture or exposure and positioning of actors.
Ill quickly explain a recap of the camera and the tripod or the Blackmagic URSA mini 4.6K. When setting up the tripod, always start from the bottom up when so that the camera is stable when filming because all of the legs are locked in place. When changing the height of the tripod, always start with the bottom set of legs first so that if you need to go higher, it's much easier to just lift the camera up rather than trying to extend the bottom legs while holding the camera. You MUST always remember to bubble the tripod and camera after every adjustment so that the camera is level. Cameras let in more or less light depending on whether you are outside or inside. This is called White balance, a higher White balance setting is needed when inside because the lighting is very orange and lower one is needed when outside because the light is blue.
Exposure
Exposure is the amount of light that a camera will receive, the brighter the shot, the more light being received. Exposure also relates to Shutter speed and Aperture which also can be known as depth of field. this image talks about all 3
Shutter speed or angle relates to how sharp or how blurry an image is when moving in front of a camera also know as motion blur. The Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K have 180 as their optimum shutter speed. The lower the shutter speed such as 90 or lower, the sharper and more crisp the moving image is and higher, the more blurry it is and easier to watch. Higher shutter speeds such as 360 or higher are used for mainly fast paced media shoots and sequences from an action film or maybe a fast rap music video.
Aperture is depth of field meaning how far behind the subject in the foreground is in focus in the shot. Having a deep foreground creates a visually spectacular shot sometimes and a one that isn't as deep can create mystery.
The lenses that come with the Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K are a
18mm
21mm
25mm
28mm
35mm
50mm
85mm
Like I said, the prime lenses cannot zoom and so they create a still shot which is tighter depending on how large the lens length is, so an 18mm lens is wider than an 85mm which is very zoomed in but creates a quality image.
You focus a prime lens by measuring the length from the 'Ø' symbol on the camera to the length of aperture in your shot. If it is 6''3 away from the 'Ø' there you adjust the wheel to 6''3.
And finally we learned about positioning actors and actresses in positions where they would be in shot but also not being covered by a shadow and have a good depth of field.
We looked at the screen for framing assistance but not while adjusting shutter speed and aperture and exposure, because the camera gives a more precise image.
Full Treatment Feedback
Good Points.
- Very simplistic, with a great theme and we've have a good story on going
- The costumes matched the Mediterranean theme very well
- We have enough of a music video even from just the performance element
- Good idea to make the female artist the standout member
- Easy to cast
Things to work on.
- Look into what we would like to project onto our set and also look into what lighting we should use.
- Look into what colour palette we should use. Should we go light or dark? - Dark would be better for projections.
Targets.
Elliot will look into projections e.g. what images we are looking for and Lighting
Madi will look at backing dancers as another element
Toby will look into the band's performance element
Alfie will look into how we are going to make our singer stand out.
Here is our full treatment presentation where we talk about our music video idea in more detail.
This was group work.
In todays Lesson, we had a video chat with Madi while she was on her way back to school and we decided on using Elliot's idea which is a really good idea and very simplistic and very aesthetically pleasing to look at. One of our themes is going to be oranges, as part of the narrative is going to be a boy trying to impress the singer by juggling oranges or apple in a T-shirt with oranges on.
In todays media lesson, we found out our production groups - Im in a group with Elliot Jones, Madi Morphet and Alfie Brigstocke (who I worked with on the opening title sequence in March)
I've created a group chat on Snapchat shortly after so we can contact each other outside of school. We had video chat last night as Madi was still at home after quarantining where she shared her ideas to us.
Tomorrow we will decide on who's idea we will use.
A quick post on the feedback of my music video idea.
Positives
- The set idea was a really good idea
- The Narrative has been thought through really well and very detailed.
- Very stylish idea
- The song coincided with the storyline. - 'Two to tango' two guys having a battle throughout the music video.
- The idea is focused constantly on either the narrative or the performance.
- Visual element worked really well with the music
-
Things to work on
- Needs more elements of performance
- The video needs the set to look perfect and it will be very reliant on it.
- Will need to get Actors and Actresses of Latin American origin.
- Cant have too much going on otherwise the video will be very confusing.
- cast adults as gang members - otherwise looks like bugsy Malone
-
