It is useful for us as an institution to build up accounts of how our audience is constructed. This gives the institution the opportunity to market effectively to their age range whether that be 15-16 year olds or 40-41 years olds. When marketing to a younger audience, the age range must be very small and precise. Saying that a target audience is for Teenagers is very risky as a 15 year old is very different to a 13 year old and so is an 18 year old so the age range should stick to around 1-2 year age gap.
Our Target Audience - Female 16-17. Target audiences are very useful for marketing as you have the opportunity to make certain choices and specific decisions for the age range that you are marketing for . This helps your marketing team with making the correct marketing decisions which help enhance the star image that you'll create during the music campaign.
Segmentation of audience
- Demographic
- Psychographic.
Demographics - Where an audience is segmented when taking into account social issues for example:
- Sexuality
- Age
- Gender
-Race
- Class
JICNARS scale
The JICNARS scale compares your 'Social Grade' to your social status which is apprehended by your occupation and wages compared to the other occupations on the market.
The Higher on the scale
- Higher Wages
- Higher Status
- Higher Class
An example of an occupation that would be higher on the JICNARS at level 'A' scale would be a doctor or a lawyer and something at level 'E' would be a cleaner or even someone with no occupation.
Psychographic (Lifestyle Profiling)
Much more in depth. It is based on ideology ( Values, Beliefs and Lifestyle ) - They are sorted into a number of individual and distinctive sections which state which ideology you belong to.
VALS
An online presence will determine your audience as an artist. The more connected you are to your audience, the more successful your star image will be. Since the birth of social media, companies have made it very simplistic to promote media, including for music artists, the opportunity to promote new music, new merchandise and tour dates. Music campaigns can also be easily promoted and produced through social media where short sections of their song may be released to entice the the audience to possible making a pre order on the album that may be released with the single. Along with the whole promotion side of social media, Artists can easily receive feedback from other social media users through comment sections in their posts. Comments may be negative or positive but either way, they help the artist improve on their music or their actions on social media or even in real life meaning their Star Image will be altered.
In our own music campaign, we will create an instagram account for our artist where we will promote the music video and single that we are going to film so it attracts the audience's attention and creates demand for our video which will then end up receiving lots of views from not only local audiences but hopefully international audiences as well. We will create merchandise that matches the single and the music video along with various Photoshoots which will hopefully promote the artist and the single along with enhancing the star image of our artist.
For our target audience, which is females who are 16-17 we will include many marketing techniques used by other alternative pop artists like sneak peaks of songs or music video and lots of visual aids as well to create awareness for the video and therefore we can have a successful music campaign.
Mood Board
Ive used these images because they have both fit the aesthetic for our target audience but are also heavily linked to our own music video. The lighting is similar along with the costumes and props - very dark with interesting lighting patterns and colour schemes which are often consumed very effectively by our target audience.
