During our shoot day for our Music Video to Spider Bites, everything went smoothly. We ran into few problems and those that we did run into we were able to find other ways of completing the tasks or getting around the minor molehills very quickly which was arguably down to pre-planning that took place before and during the shoot by the group members. All the shots went well and the shoot looked really good and futuristic because of the way it was set up. We went through the cycle of each type of shot with each set up. So that is a wide, mid and close up shot of the set up. I must admit I was getting confused with all the different set ups going on but we as a group got around it all. We all took turns at directing the cast before and during the shoots so we could make the most of the shots in the edit of the video.
Admittedly I was very excited on the day and wanted to stay on schedule so I was getting a little ahead of myself but I realised this and got back onto the same level as the others in the group meaning that things were going smoothly again. The only other set back is that the cast got a little over excited towards the end of the shoot meaning that shots were harder to take because of the lack of concentration but these were only the last few shots so not a big worry.
On the night before and the morning of, we sent one last message to the cast to be prepared for tomorrow and to wake up early and get a good breakfast in so that they will have consistent energy throughout the shoot. In the morning I printed of the shot list that I had made and also used a couple of blank sheets incase I needed to make some extra notes during the shoot. we also arrived early to the shoot and the classroom to make sure we had enough time to set up. The girls did the make up for the cast so that they looked sublime on screen and that all their facial features showed up.
The most difficult part of the shoot was getting started, the warm up take with Ady our lead singer was flawless and was used in the edit of our music video. However, after the this we took around 5 mins between each shot for about 5 takes which took a lot of time and meant we were off schedule. After this, we started making calls about which shots to use while takes were happening so that we could save time between shots and run as efficiently as possible.
The part I really enjoyed the most was viewing the whole set up from the main camera as I could see all the elements put together which was really enjoyable. Another part was when we played around with lighting styles and had some strobe lighting effects which added lots of dynamics and depth to the shot which looked incredible on screen.
As a group I think we did really well, the group came together and worked as a team really well especially as we were under the pressure a lot with time. The shoot was really complex too and I think we did really well to get our heads around it.
Not much on the day changed from our original ideas. We stuck to our plan and it worked effectively so their wasn't too much hassle on the day. A few shot ideas changed but that was it really, we didn't stick entirely to our shot list but we added a lot on to it that we followed.
